Lupo d'Inverno

🇮🇹 Fra gli animali che per me rappresentano meglio l'atmosfera invernale c'è il lupo. 

Non mi piace disegnare quello delle favole, spesso antropomorfo e bidimensionale, quasi fosse un collage incollato fra le pagine di libri troppo voluminosi e scomodi per i bambini. Preferisco invece l'animale selvatico, quello che per secoli ha popolato le catene montuose dell'Italia e di tutto il centro Europa e che ora sembra in via di estinzione, neanche fosse un panda! 🐼

Spesso il lupo appare nelle foto quasi fosse un cane del circolo polare artico: pelliccia morbida e voluminosa, occhi cerulei e un bel musetto, simile ad una volpe. Io ho cercato fra le foto, gli occhi piccoli e stretti, il muso un po' lungo, il pelo bagnato dalle intemperie e l'ho ritratto sul mio iPad in un disegno monocromatico digitale. 

Il lupo nel simbolismo rappresenta la fame, la brama, l'ingordigia. Non è un caso che per rappresentare il papato del 1300, Dante abbia scelto proprio questa belva. Per il povero Cappuccetto Rosso e la sua nonna, il Lupo rappresentava il pericolo massimo per i bambini, qualcosa che non solo sbrana, ma corrompe; certo, il Lupo non ha la pazienza della Volpe delle favole, la quale sembra quasi divertirsi di più ad ingannare le vittime che ad annientarle. 

Il lupo fa parte però del mio retaggio culturale: come Romana, la leggenda della Lupa che salva i gemelli Romolo e Remo me lo ha sempre reso simpatico come animale; tifando per la Magica, non posso che essere orgogliosa della forza feroce e unita, che simboleggia l'idea del branco di lupi. Infine, ora che tutti gli ambientalisti e gli studiosi si stanno impegnando per difendere la biodiversità anche nella fauna di monti e boschi italiani, be', non si può non provare simpatia per il lupo, no?... 

... Dopotutto, non ci sarebbe più la giusta atmosfera di paura senza i loro ululati alla luna piena, in una lunga notte buia e tempestosa! 😁

🇬🇧 The wolf represents better the Winter atmosphere, among animals. 

I don't like drawing those one of the fairytales, often anthropomorphic and two-dimensional as if it were a collage in the pages of too big and uncomfortable children books. I prefer most the wild animal, which has been populated for centuries mountain chains in Italy and in the middle of Europe and that one which seems to be endangered, as it were a panda bear! 🐼

In pictures, the wolf often looks like as a arctic dog: soft fur, blue eyes, a tiny, gracious muzzle, similar to the fox. I looked for the right photos, with narrow and little eyes and long muzzle, wet fur under the rain and I portrayed on my iPad, in a monochromatic, digital drawing. 

As for the symbolic meaning, the wolf represents famine, hunger, craving and greed. It was not by chance that in 1300, Dante Alighieri chose this beast to symbolize papacy in the "Divine Comedy". As for the poor Red Riding Hood and her granny, the Wolf represents the great danger for children, a beast that not only tears to pieces but also to abuse; certainly, the wolf is not enough patient as the fox is, in fairytales, because the second animal seems almost to like more cheating than killing her victims. 

The wolf belongs to my background, though: as Roman, I have always felt sympathy for that animal, according to the story of the She-wolf who was breeding the twin Romulus and Remus. Being supporter of The Magic soccer team, A.S. Roma, I cannot help being proud of the fierce and unified strength of the pack of wolves. 

In the end, now all the environmentalists and the biologists are fighting in order to preserve the biodiversity also in Italian mountains and woods, well, you don't feel aware about the wolf's lot, do you?... 

After all, there won't be any right thrilling atmosphere without their howling at the full moon, in a long and windy Winter night! 😆
